 Who is Asuka?

Ring Name: Asuka

Born: September 26th, 1981

From: Osaka, Japan

NXT debut: September 23rd, 2015

WWE debut: October 22nd, 2017

Bio: Nobody is ready for Asuka. And The Empress of Tomorrow proved that by not being pinned or submitted from her debut in NXT in October 2015 until WrestleMania 34 in April 2018.

Marching to the ring in a traditional noh mask and kaleidoscopic battle gear and looking every bit the victor before the opening bell even rings, Asuka has used her perfect technique and wicked intentions to take down everybody from Becky Lynch to Bayley (whom Asuka unseated as NXT Women’s Champion). All the while, the fierce Japanese Superstar has worn an intimidating smile on her face, seemingly finding joy in stretching out her overmatched opponents. She even displayed an ability to work well with others, melding with The Miz to win the first season of WWE’s Mixed Match Challenge.

Her undefeated streak came to an end at the hands of SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34, but Asuka persevered and finally captured the SmackDown Women’s Title at WWE TLC after defeating Flair and Becky Lynch in the first-ever Women’s TLC Match. Most recently, Asuka linked up with Kairi Sane to form one of the blue brand’s most dangerous duos, The Kabuki Warriors, and they captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles from Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross at WWE Hell in a Cell 2019 when The Empress used the green mist against Cross!

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions The Kabuki Warriors def. Raw Wo...

If the enemy of my enemy is my friend, then Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair were wise to join forces for a battle against the deadly combination of Asuka &Kairi Sane. But for all the shared animosity The Man and The Queen harbored for The Kabuki Warriors, two individuals can’t defeat a team, and Asuka & Kairi Sane prevailed over their rivals to retain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships in the main event of WWE TLC.
Charlotte Flair wanted retribution for her recent embarrassments at the hands of the champs, and Becky just wanted a piece of Asuka — the one Superstar who has thus far eluded The Man’s justice throughout this year long told-you-so tour that has included a Royal Rumble Match victory and a WrestleMania main event.
Both Superstars got what they wanted. The Queen unleashed the full scope of her gifts against the champions, and Kairi Sane got the worst of it by far. Becky zeroed in on Asuka for a few fateful moments with such fervor that the WWE Universe had to be left wondering what would happen if they ever got their one-on-one rematch.
Becky & Charlotte stayed in the fight, fueled by pure frustration and adrenaline, only coming up short at the last second when their big swings went wrong. Charlotte, who had set up Asuka for a moonsault through a table, instead found herself powerbombed through the pine by The Empress of Tomorrow. Becky made it halfway up the rungs to the titles, only for Asuka to yank down the ladder by grabbing a rope that was attached and pulling with all her might. That same rope had been used earlier to tie The Man to the steel at ringside.
Becky tumbled off the ladder and into the ropes, and with no one left to thwart her, Asuka made good on the opportunity. For the second year in a row at WWE TLC, The Empress of Tomorrow climbed the ladder to seize the titles and claim the victory as The Man and The Queen watched helplessly. Becky and Charlotte undeniably fought like champions, but some people are just better enemies than friends.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions The Kabuki Warriors vs. Raw...

At WWE TLC, WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Asuka & Kairi Sane will put their titles on the line against Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair.

The Kabuki Warriors have recently gone out of their way to show that they are not the nice, rule-abiding tag team everybody initially thought they were, redefining themselves as a dangerous tandem hellbent on winning at any cost while keeping the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles firmly around their waists. Lately, this has included picking fights with Flair and Lynch and spraying green mist out of nowhere in their conflict with two of the best Superstars in the business.
However, every action has consequences. And when the devious titleholders attacked both The Man and The Queen on the Dec. 9 edition of Raw, that was was the final straw, and a highly personal showdown was established for the Dec. 15 pay-per-view.

The Kabuki Warrios defeat Charlotte Flair.

It’s not unreasonable for Charlotte Flair to think she could take The Kabuki Warriors singlehandedly in a Handicap Match. After all, there are few Superstars with the kind of credibility of the 10-time Women’s Champion. But her eyes might have been bigger than her stomach on this one. More to the point, she didn’t keep them where they should have been, allowing the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions to win the two-on-one match in cruel fashion.

Charlotte was justifiably focused on Asuka in the deciding moments, looking to serve up some payback to The Empress of Tomorrow for spraying her twice in two nights with the green mist. And while The Queen applied the Figure-Eight to her longtime rival, Flair completely forgot about Kairi Sane, who had tagged in unbeknownst to The Queen and soared with an InSane Elbow as Charlotte applied the submission hold. The impact flattened Flair and easily earned the three-count. So Charlotte’s woes increase, and The Kabuki Warriors pick up a victory that Charlotte mistakenly thought was hers to lose. Sure, she’s The Queen. But there’s still only one of her.
